The hyper-advanced world Eira is relocated to: amber light, heavy gravity, thin air, food toxic to humans, and the Consortium's pervasive surveillance.
Coda is tidally locked, split between a permanent day side and night side by a band of twilight — the terminator band — whose unmonitored edge lets nodes slip in unseen. Most of Eira's integration happens here: the alien medical intake, the nanocarbon suit, the struggle to learn Quoric. By Right Hand Man it's simply home — Eira lives in a "basic but nice" house next to Nellie Platin, its backyard "most Codan fare": tall white-and-copper walls, trimmed topiaries, a reflecting pool. She's already tired of the place and itching to leave.
